Legal Counsel, Church & Ministry Alliance Legal Program

Position Overview

Alliance Defending Freedom seeks a passionate Legal Counsel to support faith-based ministries by providing critical legal guidance, protecting religious liberty, and advancing the organization's mission of defending God-given rights through comprehensive legal services.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational legal assistance to faith-based ministries, enabling them to effectively carry out their religious missions
• Develop and implement legal policies, best practices, and resources addressing various aspects of ministry operations
• Advise ministries on religious liberty threats and appropriate protective measures
• Educate ministries about religious liberty challenges through speaking engagements, publications, webinars, and conferences
• Establish and cultivate relationships with churches across evangelical and denominational spectrums
• Conduct comprehensive legal research and provide tailored legal advice for churches and ministries
• Draft and review legal resources, collaborating with colleagues to verify legal analysis
• Interact with media and participate in recruiting potential Church & Ministry Alliance members

Required Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) with active license in at least one US state bar
• Minimum 3 years of legal experience
• Capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction within one year
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, WordPerfect, and Westlaw software
• Strong analytical, relational, project management, and public speaking skills
• Willingness to travel as needed
