PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

The Senior High Youth Ministry Associate at Surrey provides strategic leadership to a thriving and growing high school ministry. This role is responsible for planning and executing regular large-scale youth gatherings and events, discipling students, and equipping a team of volunteer leaders. This role includes recruiting, training, and pastoring volunteers, casting vision, preaching to large groups, and partnering with parents and families. They will also oversee administrative systems, track ministry data, coordinate social media communication, and provide pastoral care and leadership development throughout the ministry.

Understands the Village vision and mission and is able to clearly and passionately communicate it.
  • Strategic Leadership:  Develops a broad and big picture view of the ministry as it relates to the vision and mission of Village Church. Maintains a strategic focus on the long term goals while conceptually problem solving on a daily basis. Identifies opportunities to support organizational growth and/or enhance effectiveness through sorting through clutter and finding the best route. Anticipates potential challenges and develops contingency plans to support the achievement of the vision.  Breaks down the barriers to completion.
  • Thoroughness: Ensures that one’s own work and others are complete and accurate.  Follows up to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled.  Able to plan ahead and be on top of timelines, and has a strong attention to detail while managing multiple projects and people.  Delivers an experience to the Youth audience that is consistent with the Village standard of Excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Disciples and leads a group of Lead volunteers.
  • Maintains a safe environment by training and executing Plan to Protect policies and best practices.
  • Maintains process for recruiting onboarding and training new leaders (policy, small groups, vision, DNA, etc.).
  • Analyzes the effectiveness of youth nights, events, trainings etc. and adjusts as needed.
  • Provides bi-annual and micro trainings for volunteers.
  • Meets with leaders throughout the week to build relationships and disciple.
  • Knows students' names and is known by the students.
  • Is knowledgeable of what is going on in the community with high school students, attends events and connects with schools.
  • Preaches 2-4 x’s a month.
  • Ensures a plan for transporting, setting up and tearing down all of the needed production equipment and supplies on a youth night.
  • Participates in a Communicators Collective with a member of the teaching team to develop communication skills.
  • Partners with parents through clear and consistent communication, creating feedback loops, and offering equipping opportunities such as parent labs and resources to support discipleship at home.
  • Plans and executes a Sr. Youth retreat annually.
  • Collaborates in the planning and execution of Sr. Youth Camp annually.
  • Creates an annual calendar/ministry strategy and budget each fall.
  • Fulfills responsibilities at Site Wide events as requested by Lead Pastor.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with the youth venue (PCC).
  • Collaborates in building the church wide vision, strategy and brand for Village Youth.
  • Ensures all responsibilities are completed in a purposeful, strategic and focused manner that points people to Jesus.
  • Acts as a servant by inviting, discipling, training and equipping others to serve.
  • Ensures all responsibilities are produced, promoted and lead with a high level of innovation and excellence, honouring God at the highest level.
  • Acts with a sense of ambitious urgency, ensuring all work is completed wisely and impactfully.  Time is a gift from God.
  • Maintains an openness to being a learner by committing to continuous spiritual, professional, and self development.
  • Contributes to the best team culture by participating joyfully and working well with peers.
  • Commits to thanking at least one volunteer on a weekly basis.
  • Demonstrates behaviour consistent with the Standard of Conduct as outlined in the Village Staff Manual.

KEY RESULTS

Gospel

  • High level of organization and excellence of Sr Youth weeknights and events maintaining Village standards and the established processes.
  • Growth in Sr Youth, both in number and impact (new students, baptisms, retreat and camp engagement beyond week day numbers)

Community

  • Increase in volunteer team and higher level of volunteer care
  • A clear development pipeline within that is created and operational
  • Parents know the Sr Youth Associate and have trust in his abilities and the program

Culture

  • Students are cared for and connected to a consistent small group leader
  • Pursues relationships with unchurched people - connecting with them, inviting them to events and Sunday services.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Philosophically aligned with Village Church Mission, Focus and strategy.
  • Fulfills character qualifications as highlighted in 1 Timothy and Titus.
  • Fulfill the duties required of Village Church members as outlined in the ‘This is Village Church’ course.
  • Pursues a deeper relationship with Christ and greater spiritual growth through prayer, the gospel, and community. Is a disciple.
  • Demonstrated passion about students and building a team to see students become passionate followers of Jesus.
  • Loves working with senior high school kids

WORK WEEK

  • 40 hrs/week - flexible home/office, Tuesday Youth Night
  • Evenings and weekends
