Position Overview
As a Chaplain II at St. Charles Hospital, you will minister to patients, families, and staff by providing comprehensive spiritual care and emotional support within the context of illness, crisis, loss, and death, while embodying Mercy Health's mission of compassionate healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide spiritual care to diverse faith groups in a non-proselytizing manner, addressing religious and ritual needs of patients and staff
- Conduct advanced pastoral care using emotional processing, counseling techniques, and theological reflection
- Perform comprehensive spiritual assessments and care planning for patients
- Provide specialized spiritual interventions in end-of-life situations and crisis cases
- Coordinate pastoral care resources and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members
- Conduct Advanced Care Planning consultations and document patient care preferences
- Communicate clinically relevant information in Electronic Medical Records
- Respond to 24/7 on-call responsibilities, including holidays and weekends
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Religious Studies, Divinity, or Theology
- 3 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) completed
- 1 year of experience as a Chaplain in a healthcare setting
- Ecclesial endorsement from a church body for hospital ministry
- Advanced understanding of Catholic healthcare ethical directives
- Doctoral degree in Theology or Philosophy (preferred)
