Position Overview
As a PRN On-Call Relief Chaplain, you will provide critical spiritual care and emotional support to patients, families, and staff across Corewell Health, covering on-call hours from 3 p.m. to 7 a.m. weekdays and 24 hours on weekends and holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive spiritual care and emotional support to patients, families, and staff members of all faiths, facilitating spiritual understanding and coping during challenging medical situations
- Identify and engage additional spiritual resources and providers in a culturally competent manner
- Accurately document patient and family interactions, assessments, and care plans for interdisciplinary teams
- Collaborate closely with departmental colleagues to ensure seamless spiritual care coverage
- Integrate professional practice into healthcare teams to enhance whole-person care
- Prioritize emergent referrals while managing time effectively across variable shifts
- Apply working knowledge of medical ethics, recognize potential ethical conflicts, and initiate ethics consultations when necessary
- Facilitate advance care planning conversations and decision-making processes
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Bible, Theology, Religion, Pastoral Care, Ministry Practicum, Psychology, or Counseling
- One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) - to be completed within one year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Red Cross within 90 days of hire
