Position Overview
As a Chaplain II at Southside Medical Center, you will provide comprehensive spiritual care and emotional support to patients, families, and staff, serving as an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team while embodying the mission and core values of Bon Secours Mercy Health.
Key Responsibilities
- Minister to diverse populations by providing spiritual support, emotional care, and religious guidance in a non-proselytizing manner
- Conduct full-spectrum spiritual care assessments and develop appropriate care plans for patients experiencing illness, crisis, loss, and end-of-life situations
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to provide holistic patient care and make appropriate referrals
- Perform Advanced Care Planning consultations and document patient care preferences
- Recognize and address sacramental needs of Catholic patients while supporting diverse faith groups
- Provide pastoral counseling using advanced techniques including emotional processing and theological reflection
- Professionally document clinical interactions in Electronic Medical Records
- Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation, including holidays and weekends
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Religious Studies, Divinity, or Theology
- 3 units of completed Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)
- 1 year of experience as a Chaplain in a healthcare setting
- Ecclesial endorsement from church body for hospital ministry
- Strong skills in pastoral care, crisis counseling, interfaith dialogue, and spiritual assessment
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities
- Deep understanding of Catholic Social Teaching and Healthcare Ethics
