Position Overview
The Director of Deaf Ministry is a vital role coordinating Catholic Ministry for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in the Archdiocese of San Antonio, facilitating their participation and inclusion in the Catholic community through comprehensive pastoral support and strategic leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate participation and inclusion of deaf individuals and their families into Catholic community and parish life
- Manage strategic plan for Deaf Ministry and develop communication efforts for service promotion
- Connect Deaf Community to the Archdiocese through ASL translation, advocacy, and support services
- Develop and provide ongoing training for liturgical ministers and interpreters
- Manage interpreting services schedule and process invoices for contract interpreters
- Coordinate spiritual enrichment opportunities like Deaf retreats and days of reflection
- Serve as primary resource for parish needs concerning Deaf individuals
- Create and manage ministry budget while providing sacramental care through interpreted Masses and liturgical services
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Pastoral Ministry, or Theology/Religious Studies
- Minimum 5 years' experience in Sign language interpreting, Project Management, or Non-Profit work
- State or Nationally Certified Sign Language Interpreter
- Excellent communication skills and knowledge of Deaf Culture
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work with minimal supervision
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church preferred
